Sorrow

Through my tears I see love,

yet I cannot seem to grasp it.

Hazy clouds of sorrow still

blind my unsoothed heart.

Time passes with each fading breath

the past is gone.

I can’t hold on to love that wept;

so long, farewell.

They say it is better to speak

and yet my silence overtakes.

Once again, I am alone.

About This Piece

Inspired by a prompt from Kim Addonizio’s Ordinary Genius: take certain words from a poem we love and rework them to create our own piece. I chose words from the love poem “We Have Lived and Loved Together,” by Charles Jefferys.
